What did you think? There was still plenty of magic. So when an enormous white bear shows up one cold autumn evening and asks teenage Rose eawt always been different. So I’m conflicted about this book. This also worked to make Rose’s journey seem much more full of hardships than is the shorter version.


I get that, I get it’s a trope. Rose feels out of place in her family, despite her love for them and her home; she can never live up to the standard set by her dead sister Elise, and is consumed by un-east-like wanderlust and desire for adventure.

The fable of east of the patou and west of the moon told in a novel form, it reminds me of fairytale retellings I read as a young teen, Robin McKinley and suchand it was very easy to submerge myself in the story.
