Only get this book if you can deal with a book that reads as densely as a course textbook. Breathing is followed by pelvic and abdominal exercises in chapter 3 because the pelvis and abdomen form the foundation of the body.
This book is probably not for everyone. Read, highlight, and take notes, across web, tablet, and phone.
Anatomy of Hatha Yoga: Once you are comfortable with the jargon, this book will help yoga practitioners understand what those poses are supposed coulterr do for and to your body. But then again, I’m an anatomy nerd.

If you are tired of the medieval, mystical and unscientific descriptions of the body that usually go along with yoga classes you will find Coulter a breath of fresh air. There does seem to be a great deal of interesting information here just not what I wanted at this point.

The author identifies the muscles and joints that are stretched in various poses, and suggests realistic goals for beginners, intermediate, and advanced yoga enthusiasts. It is well written and the author does a good job of getting as to what works or doesn’t work with various asanas or poses. This book presents a good balance.
